Remember as a child playing hide-n-seek? Or going on a scavenger hunt? Or hiding the Easter baskets? Or hiding your brother/sister’s favorite toy? Surprises that were hidden were so much fun to find, or it was just fun to hide things.
Well, that is how Satan feels with us now. He thinks it’s fun to keep the hidden things from us, the sin that we don’t even realize is sin. The sin that will keep us from reaching our promise land.
There are things that we do that we know are outright sin. We know we shouldn’t have done it, and we repent immediately or at least shortly after. What about the things that Satan is keeping hidden from you that you don’t even realize is there, is hiding, deep..deep..down. These are the things that will keep us from our promises and receiving ALL of God.
The insecurities, the jealousy, the pride (that really says it’s not prideful so it can be “ignored”), the compromising, the justifying.
What kept the Israelites wandering in the desert and away from the Promise Land for 40 years? Sin….exposed and not exposed. Not having a willing heart to change and receive the words of the prophets that were given to them. Looking at themselves and saying….”We deserve better. All we have eaten is manna day after day. Moses has led us out here to die.” And on and on it went.
God will allow us to remain EXACTLY where we are if we refuse to change our ways. It’s His love for us and His promise. He HAS to do what His word says. He cannot go against it. When it says No Complaining, Philippians 2:14, that’s exactly what it means. So we can’t get mad or angry at God because we aren’t seeing our promises fulfilled, or we aren’t seeing the favor and blessings on our lives. What are we doing that is keeping us in the desert?
Eph. 5:11-14 says to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but expose them, and all things that are exposed are made manifest in the light. John 3:20-21 says, for those practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds be exposed, but those want the truth will come to the light that his deeds will be clearly seen.
What is keeping the sin hidden? Shame, condemnation, guilt, pride? None of those are from God. They are all works of the enemy.
